WORKING GROUPS

The CREC Working Groups are a joint cooperation spaces among partners focussed on tackling the challenges of the waste sector.

They are organised from the initiative of a small group of partners around a specific area of work with one partner assigned the coordinator and with the support of the Cluster team.

Topics covered must be defined, approved by the Board and aligned with the strategic areas and objectives of the Cluster.

The working groups are open to all CREC partners who wish to actively collaborate. When it is deemed strategic to promote the working groups, other environment agents of interest may be invited (public administration, leading associations, etc.) to participate in the meetings and/or activities.

WORKING GROUP
EFFICIENT COLLECTION SYSTEMS

The Efficient Collection Systems Working Group of the Waste Cluster is a joint cooperation space between a small group of partners focussed on improving the current municipal waste collection systems thus reducing the presence of unsuitable waste (waste that does not correspond to the content in question) to obtain good quality materials and/or resources.

The working group is driven by the members of the group, with one partner designated as the coordinator, and it is supported by the Cluster team.

Coordinating Partners

MOBA and Ros Roca

OBJECTIVES

  • Create a knowledge platform on efficient collection systems from within, informing on the technological solutions that partners are already working on and creating synergies, as well as externally, identifying experiences of value and analysing leaders outside the Cluster.
  • Accelerating projects of common interest to Cluster participants. Reinforcing innovation and the application of advanced technologies on collection systems, reducing unsuitable waste and connecting the public and private sector to facilitate and encourage municipalities to contract efficient systems.

WORKING GROUP
On traceability

The New Recovery Channels Working Group of the Waste Cluster is a joint cooperation space between a small group of partners focussed on tackling the challenges of traceability in the waste sector.

The working group is driven by the members of the group, with one partner designated as the coordinator, and it is supported by the Cluster team.

Coordinating Partners

Blue Room Innovation

OBJECTIVES

  • Create a knowledge platform on the traceability of waste from within, among the partners who have been working on technological solutions, as well as externally, identifying model experiences of value outside the Cluster.
  • Accelerate projects of common interest to Cluster participants around specific waste streams. In this way, it ensures compliance with legislation, differentiating products/services put on the market by partners that have added value and promoting transparency with sustainable positioning.

WORKING GROUP
New circular business models

The Working Group on New Circular Business Models is a space for joint cooperation among a small group of members focused on identifying and shaping business opportunities associated with eco-design and eco-innovation, focusing on the highest levels of the waste hierarchy (prevention and reuse), contributing to synergy generation and the circular economy. The group is driven by its members, with a designated coordinating partner, and supported by the cluster team.

Coordinating Partners

Inèdit i Leitat

OBJECTIVES

  • Create dialogue spaces between waste generators and operators to generate new circular business opportunities.
  • Identify value chains with the highest potential for circular and business transformation.
  • Position the cluster as a benchmark in circularity and attract new value chain members.

WORKING GROUP
New recovery pathways
Textiles

The Textile working subgroup, framed within the New Recovery Pathways Working Group of the CREC, is a space for joint cooperation among a small group of members focused on improving the recovery of this waste stream and promoting the circular economy.

Coordinating Partners

Datambient

OBJECTIVES

  • Create a shared knowledge space to identify experiences, technologies, and best practices in textile waste recovery, both within the cluster and externally.
  • Promote collaborative projects that enable the transformation of textile waste into new resources, fostering the circular economy and the secondary raw materials market.

WORKING GROUP
New recovery pathways
Bio-waste

The Bio-waste working subgroup, framed within the New Recovery Pathways Working Group of the CREC, is a space for joint cooperation among a small group of members focused on improving the recovery of this waste stream and promoting the circular economy.

In 2025, we are promoting initiatives related to sludge.

Coordinating Partners

CT BETA and IRTA

OBJECTIVES

  • Identify bio-waste treatment technologies and facilitate technology transfer.
  • Organize networking events among working group members and relevant stakeholders to address the specific needs of the bio-waste stream being worked on.

WORKING GROUP
New recovery pathways
CRMs and Batteries

The CRM and Batteries working subgroup, framed within the New Recovery Pathways Working Group of the CREC, is a space for joint cooperation among a small group of members focused on improving the recovery of this waste stream and promoting the circular economy.

Coordinating Partners

Eurecat

OBJECTIVES

  • Provide knowledge and promote projects aimed at increasing the availability of secondary critical raw materials and reducing import dependency.
  • Identify technological and regulatory needs to enhance the recovery of valuable materials from batteries and promote second-life models and advanced recycling.
  • Identify value chain needs to achieve the recovery of these waste streams in Catalonia.

WORKING GROUP
New recovery pathways
Composites and Plastics

The Composites and Plastics working subgroup, framed within the New Recovery Pathways Working Group of the CREC, is a space for joint cooperation among a small group of members focused on improving the recovery of this waste stream and promoting the circular economy.

Coordinating Partners

Alier and Eurecat

OBJECTIVES

  • Thoroughly analyze the different origins, composition, and characterization of composite waste.
  • Identify new recovery pathways for composite and plastic waste to prevent landfill disposal.
